How face-to-face communication can be superior to written communication
Face-to-face communication is superior to written communication. Not only do you have tone of voice, you also have facial expressions. Facial expressions can communicate a variety of things, including interest level, attitude, and whether or not the other person is interested in what you're saying. For example, you can more easily express the degree of confidence and how you feel about a certain thing face-to-face.
There are a number of reasons why face-to-face conversations are better. They include that it's easier to establish trust face-to-face. It's easier to maintain eye contact and be direct with someone face-to-face because you can tell the truth without worrying that what you're saying sounds unkind.
Also, people tend to respond better to the honesty of a face. Expressing emotions with your face is more natural, while expressing emotions over text takes active effort, making it easier to be dishonest about your emotions.
Finally, face-to-face communication is much more personal. Knowing that you aren't being recorded makes it less likely your words will be used to guilt and fear against you. Again, face-to-face communication makes it possible to express confidence and tone more easily.
