Lets take a look at the first major projects or organizations that come to mind for me…
Amazon was created in 1994. Its first logo came out in 1995. As it grew, its logo changed, until 1998 the logo became similar to what it is today.
Linux was created in 1991. Linux’s logo– Tux the penguin– came out in 1996.
GitHub was created in 2008. It used this basic lettermark and slogan as its logo for five years:
People have an urge to create beautiful things with aesthetic. Combined with the thrill of starting a new project, they divert that energy into making a logo. It’s natural thing to want to do, but you shouldn’t do it.
Instead, you should focus your energy on:
Interviewing users
Checking basic assumptions
Defining the scope of your Minimum Viable Product
Recruiting team members
Working on hard technical problems
Looking what competitors are available on the marketplace
A good logo will come later, when you have more resources and a better idea of what you’re building. Maybe someone will even make you a logo for free.
